Mallorca Open at Tennis Terraces

23/06/2017

We are finishing the month of June and we have here a new edition of Mallorca Open, that arrives full of good players in an incomparable setting on the island of Mallorca, specifically in the tennis club Santa Ponsa in Calvia.

Mallorca Open is the first tournament entered in the WTA female ranking to be played in the Balearic Islands. This tournament was officially inaugurated in 2016 on the Mallorca island by the Santa Ponsa tennis club in the Tennis Terraces facilities.

The Mallorca Open is held in Tennis Terraces, a complex located in Calviá and which, our studio GRAS Reynés Arquitectos, had the privilege of developing from the start.

The plot is divided into two large areas: the court area, consisting of 5 grass courts and 5 clay courts, and the building area, where there is a bar area on the ground floor and a multipurpose room on the second floor.

The creation of the complex was developed around the main court, in which a series of grandstands were built totally integrated into the land and made of Marés stone, a noble material typical of Mallorca that has been used for many years in the Balearic Islands.

The structure of the building is supported by concrete and large windows make up most of the façade, which allows natural light to enter and offers panoramic views of the courts. The structure of the clubhouse also has cantilevers on the second floor and the roof, which have been designed flying over the main court and, as well, extend the interior space outwards to offer unparalleled views of the main court and the rest of the complex.

We are proud to say that the result of the project was a great success both because of the criticism in the press, as well as from the clients themselves, who without a doubt have taken a big step towards the Mallorca Open being considered one of the most important grass tournaments in our country.
